Fuel Range

Miles Per Tank Calculator

Calculate your vehicle's maximum driving range on a single full tank of fuel.

The Miles Per Tank Calculator helps you estimate how far your vehicle can travel before you need to refuel. By combining your vehicle's fuel tank size (capacity) and your average fuel economy (MPG), you can estimate your total range for road trips and daily commutes.

Formula Range = Tank Capacity (gal) × MPG

How to Calculate Your Range

  1. Find your vehicle's tank size in your owner's manual or by looking at your receipt the next time you fill up from completely empty.
  2. Input your average MPG. You can find this on your dashboard display or calculate it using our main home page calculator.
  3. Click Calculate Range to see your total distance and a 1/4 tank safety reserve estimate.

Miles Per Tank Calculator FAQ

Multiply your vehicle's fuel tank capacity (in gallons) by its average miles per gallon (MPG). For example, if you have a 15-gallon tank and average 25 MPG, your vehicle can travel approximately 375 miles on a full tank (15 × 25 = 375).

No, tank size does not affect engine fuel efficiency directly. However, a larger tank holds more fuel, which increases weight. More weight slightly lowers real-world MPG, especially during stop-and-go city driving.

No. Driving on a very low tank can draw debris from the bottom of the fuel tank into the fuel pump and engine. It also risks overheating the fuel pump, which relies on the surrounding fuel for cooling. It is recommended to refuel when you reach 1/4 of a tank.

It is an estimate. Real-world range depends heavily on driving conditions (city vs. highway), vehicle load, wind resistance, and tyre pressure. Using combined MPG will give you the most realistic estimate.
